Let's talk travel while pregnant!
Whether you’re heading off on a babymoon or taking a simple weekend trip, a little preparation goes a long way toward making travel in pregnancy smooth, comfortable, and stress-free. The items on this list are relevant all through pregnancy.
Maternity notes (paper or electronic) Always keep your maternity records with you when traveling, whether on your phone or in print. They contain important details your healthcare provider would need in case of an emergency.
Fit to Fly letter Many airlines require a letter from your doctor or midwife confirming that it’s safe for you to travel after 28 weeks. Request it in advance to avoid any last-minute stress at the airport.
Travel insurance Check that your insurance covers pregnancy and any related care abroad. It’s worth confirming coverage for both you and your baby, just for peace of mind.
Compression socks Wearing these on flights or long journeys helps improve circulation and reduce swelling in your legs. Try to stretch or walk every hour or so, too.
Pillow A small travel or neck pillow can make a big difference on longer trips. Use it for back support, neck comfort, or even between your knees if you’re resting.
Anti-heartburn medication Heartburn can flare up during travel, especially after sitting for long periods or eating unfamiliar foods. Keep doctor-approved remedies handy in your carry-on bag.
Extra snacks and water Pregnancy hunger strikes quickly! Pack easy, nutritious snacks like fruit, nuts, or granola bars, and keep sipping water regularly to stay hydrated.
Comfortable clothes and shoes Choose loose, breathable layers and supportive footwear. Swelling and heat are common when traveling, so comfort should come before style.
